More about Enicar 1443503 Vintage Sherpa Ultra Dive SS

This is a vintage c.1960's Enicar Sherpa Ultra Dive Super Compressor 1443503. It has a shell cordovan leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. There is a bayonet case back engraved "ENICAR – SHERPA – STAINLESS STEEL," and the reference number, with the Sherpa emblem in high relief in the center. The 40mm diameter solid three-body case, downturned lugs, and internal rotating "turntable" bezel are all polished. It has the original cross-hatch Enicar crowns with a super crown guard; the crown at 2 o'clock operates the rotation of the bezel, and the crown at 4 o'clock adjusts the time. The dial is black with applied faceted creamy baton hour markers and luminous yellow square and shield indices. It has the original luminous steel baton hands, a center sweep seconds hand with twin yellow dot pointers, and a perimeter 60-minute/seconds track with Arabic numerals every five minutes. There is a date aperture window at the 3 o'clock position. It's water resistant to 200 meters/650 feet, and the 14mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

This Enicar Sherpa Ultra Dive Super Compressor 1443503 has an Enicar caliber AR 1145 automatic self-winding movement. It's gold-plated, and constructed with 24 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, a free-sprung flat balance spring, a shock absorber device, and a micrometer regulator.

The Enicar Sherpa Ultra Dive Super Compressor 144/35/03 name actually referred to the case sealing technology, which had a spring-loaded case-back that sealed tighter as external water pressure increased. It was introduced in 1960 and ended production in 1970.
