More about Vintage Daytona 6239 Baby Blue / Light Blue

This is a vintage 1969 stainless steel Rolex Daytona 6239. It has an integral stainless steel link Rolex 7205 riveted bracelet with 60 end links, dated 1967, and there is a domed acrylic crystal. The "Daytona" letters around the 12-hour chronograph subsidiary dial are baby blue. It has a screw down winding crown, round "pump" chronograph push buttons, and a solid screw down case back, inside of which is stamped "MONTRES ROLEX S.A. – GENEVA – SWITZERLAND – PATENTED – STAINLESS STEEL - 6239." The 37mm diameter solid three-body case, slightly curved lugs, bracelet, and flat angled bezel, are polished/brushed. There is a polished engraved graduated 60-minute bezel with a tachymeter to 200 UPH. The dial is black with applied faceted steel baton hour markers, luminous dot indices, and a perimeter white minute/one-fifth second scale. It has steel baton hands with luminous inserts, and a center sweep chronograph seconds hand with a luminous white arrow pointer. There are three recessed white "pie tin" subsidiary dials, including a running small seconds register at 9 o'clock, the 12-hour totalizer at 6 o'clock, and there is a 30-minute chronograph dial at 3 o'clock. The 13.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Rolex Daytona 6239 has a mechanical manual winding Rolex caliber 722-1 column wheel movement. It's rhodium-plated, and it's constructed with 17 jewels, an Incabloc shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance that's adjusted to 3 positions, a self-compensating free-sprung Breguet balance spring, and Microstella regulating screws. The Ref. 6239 was introduced in 1961, and was produced until 1976. This particular model variant debuted in 1967 and was made until 1969. It was the first use of a black dial with silver chronograph dials, and the tachymeter scale was moved from the dial onto the bezel.
