More about Vintage Sherpa Graph Mark II Black Dial SS

This is a vintage stainless steel Enicar Sherpa Graph with a Mark II. It has a shell cordovan strap, and a domed acrylic crystal. It has the original crosshatched Enicar winding crown, and the solid screw-down case back is engraved with the Sherpa and Seapearl logo. It has round chronograph pushbuttons and a grey outer tachymeter ring with 300 UPH. The 40mm diameter solid three-body case, faceted downturned lugs with a triangular chamfer on their sides, and angled bezel are polished/brushed. The dial is black with silver sunken "pie tin" subsidiary dials, applied faceted luminescent baton hour index markers, and steel luminous hands. It has a central red chronograph hand and an outer white minute/second track. There is a straight, steel subsidiary constant seconds dial at the 9 o'clock position, and with steel spear hands for the chronograph register hands. The 14mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The manual winding Valjoux 72 movement is rhodium-plated, with a shock absorber mechanism. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a monometallic balance. It includes a self-compensating blued Breguet balance spring. Enicar Seapearl watches were worn by members of the Swiss expedition to Mount Everest in 1956. Enicar took advantage of the publicity by naming their "explorer" watches Sherpa later that year. They brought out over 100 different Sherpa models in the ensuing decade.
