More about IWC IW510206 Portuguese 8 Day Hand Wound 75th Anniversary 18K Rose Gold UNWORN

This is an 18K rose gold IWC Portuguese Hand Wound Eight Days, IW510206. It has an alligator leather strap made by Santoni, with a matching 18K rose gold tang buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal with an arched edge and antireflective coating on both surfaces. The 43mm diameter solid three-body case, stepped bezel, and downturned lugs are polished. It has a screwed down exhibition sapphire display case back and a push/pull-winding crown. The dial is silver with gold-toned Arabic numeral hour markers around a gold printed minute track, and feuille leaf shaped polished gold hour & minute hands. There is a subsidiary small seconds dial at the 6 o'clock position, and a circular date aperture window at 3 o'clock. It's water resistant to 25 meters/120 feet, and the power reserve is eight days/192 hours at full wind. The 10mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

The manual winding IWC caliber 59215 movement is rhodium plated with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 30 jewels and a shock absorber mechanism. It has a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance that's adjusted to 5 positions, and a self-compensating Breguet balance spring. There is an index regulator, and a skeletonized bidirectional rotor with an engraved IWC logo with "adj to 5 positions," and a power reserve display on the back.

IWC debuted this watch in 2013. The actual power reserve is a full 9 days, but a blocking mechanism restricts it to the first 192 hours, when the tension in the mainspring remains is at its most regular. This watch honors the design of the original Portuguese timepieces of the 1930s with an arched-edge crystal, a railway-track-style chapter ring, feuille hands, and a small seconds dial at 6 o’clock. To keep the traditional symmetry of the dial, the power reserve display was positioned on the watch’s movement side.
