More about Rolex 116660 Sea Dweller Deep Sea

This is a 904L stainless steel Rolex Oyster Sea Dweller Deep Sea, 116660. It has an integral 904L stainless steel flat three-piece link Oysterlock bracelet. The solid 43mm diameter three-body monobloc case is polished and brushed. It has a unidirectional rotating bezel with a black Cerachrom ceramic insert, and numerals for decompression times. It includes a screwed-down patented triplock winding crown protected by a crown guard, a screwed-down solid case back, a scratch resistant sapphire crystal, and a centered sweep seconds hand. The dial is black, with luminous steel hands, and round, baton, and triangular hour index markers. It's water-resistant to 3900 meters (12,800 feet), and there is a helium escape valve at the 9 o'clock case position. The date aperture window is at 3 o'clock, and there are outer minutes/seconds division indexes. It has an Instantaneous date with rapid setting, and a stop-seconds function for precise time setting. Included is a COSC (Certified Official Swiss Chronometer) certificate. The 17.8mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

The automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 3135 movement is rhodium-plated and it's constructed with 27 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a shock absorber mechanism. It has bidirectional self-winding via a perpetual rotor. It has a monometallic balance that's adjusted to 5 positions, and a free-sprung self-compensating Breguet balance spring. It includes a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring, Microstella regulating screws, and a central hacking mechanism.

Rolex introduced the Deep Sea for extreme underwater exploring in 2008. This is the modern, advanced model of the great Rolex Oyster diver’s watches of the 1950’s and 60’s. It evolved from Rolex masterpieces like the Sea-Dweller and Submariner. When it originally debuted in 2008, the Deep Sea was named after the experimental Rolex 1960 Deep Sea Special, the historical watch that dived to 10,916 meters in the Mariana Trench.
