More about IWC IW378505 Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil Limited Edition SS / Leather

This is a stainless steel IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil Limited Edition, reference IW378505. It has a leather and rubber strap with a stainless steel IWC tang buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. It has a screw-down solid case back engraved with the legendary Mercedes Silver Arrow W25, a screw-down winding crown with a crown protector, and rectangular Flyback chronograph pushbuttons. The 45.5mm diameter solid three-body case, hooded lugs, and flat bezel are polished/brushed. The dial is silver with perlage finishing, luminous black baton hands, and applied faceted luminous baton hour index markers. There is a red chronograph hand and an outer minute/one-fifth seconds track with Arabic numerals every five minutes. There is an outer tachymeter to 1000 UPH on the bezel. There is a constant seconds subsidiary dial at the 6 o'clock position, combined with a date aperture window display with crown-activated rapid advance. There is a 60-minute/hour totalizer sub dial at 12 o'clock. It's water resistant to 120 meters/380 feet, and it has a 68-hour power reserve at full wind. The 15mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

The mechanical automatic self-winding IWC caliber 89361 movement is rhodium-plated, with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 38 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, a self-compensating flat balance spring, a double-pawl automatic winding system, and a hacking seconds mechanism for precise time-setting.

This IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil Limited Edition, reference IW378505 is a tribute to the Mercedes Silver Arrow W25, whose steel dashboard had a circular-grain decoration similar to the dial of the watch, which was produced in an edition limited to 1000 examples.
