More about Vintage World Time 18K Yellow 3rd Series Circa 1948

This is a vintage c. 1948 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe World Time, 1415 HU. It has a leather strap with a matching yellow gold tang buckle, and the original Plexiglas crystal. It has a snap-on case back on which all the hallmarks are clear and defined. The 31mm diameter solid three-body case, rounded and reeded hand engraved bi-directional revolving bezel (with 41 international city names), and straight teardrop lugs are polished. The dial is silver, with applied gold Roman numeral hour markers at the quarter hours, and baton indexes. The revolving dial has 24-hour nocturnal and diurnal halves, with yellow gold dauphine and circle hands. The 9mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical manual winding Patek Philippe caliber 12-120 movement is rhodium-plated, with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 18 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a monometallic balance that's adjusted to 8 positions. It includes a self-compensating Breguet overcoil balance spring, and an index regulator with whiplash fine-regulation. The reference 1415 was introduced in 1939 and remained in production until circa 1954. Its movement was based on the established Patek Philippe in-house caliber 12-120. While earlier examples of the reference 1415 HU would only list 28 cities, the later generation, including this 3rd series watch, had 41 global locations. The case of this timepiece is in excellent condition.
