More about 1815 Moonphase Hommage to Emil Lange Rose Gold Limited

This is a rose gold A. Lang & Sohne 1815 Moonphase Homage to Emil Lange 231.031. The moonphase complication is engineered to remain accurate for 1000 years, giving the concept of heirloom an entirely expanded meaning. Although a gentleman's watch, it conforms more to the modest, older size watches, at a case size of 35.9mm. It's manual winding with hours, minutes, small seconds, and moonphase functions, and has a 45-hour power reserve. The small seconds subdial is at 4 o'clock and there is a seconds rail around the outer ring. There is a display sapphire crystal caseback allowing a view of the Caliber L943.1 movement with the patented Lange balance spring. It has an alligator strap with a rose gold pin buckle and the movement, dial, and case are signed. Moreover, this watch is as much astrological art as horology; The Big Dipper constellation is represented with seven rose gold dots, with Alcor and Mizar portrayed in the center of the Big Dipper's handle. Since Alcor was miniscule in the sky, being able to spot both stars meant one had good vision in medieval times. There are also rose gold stars indicating three, six, and nine o'clock. This watch is in an edition of 250, honoring the younger son of founder Adolph Lange. Emil and his older brother, Richard, were the second generation of the company, continuing the passion for superb craftsmanship and precision horology. This complicated timepiece was introduced in 1999 to honor the 150th birthday of Emil, and it sold out in 2000.
