More about "Jean Claude Killy" Co-Pilot Watch SS

This is a vintage c. 1965 stainless steel Breitling Co-Pilot 765 CP. It has a shell cordovan strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and a plexiglass crystal. There is a screw-down solid case-back engraved with the Breitling 'B' logo, "BREITLING – SHOCK PROTECTED – ANTIMAGNETIC – STAINLESS STEEL - WATERPROOF," and the reference number 765 CP. The inner soft iron-lined anti-magnetic case-back is signed, with the serial number, and service marks. It has a black anodized aluminum bi-directional rotating 12-hr bezel. The 41mm diameter solid three-body case, downturned lugs, and knurled edge bezel are polished/brushed. The "reverse panda" dial is black with silver guilloche recessed subsidiary dials, luminous white baton hands, a luminous white arrow-tipped center sweep chronograph hand, luminous baton hour markers, and an Arabic numeral 12. Around the perimeter is a radial minute/one-fifth seconds track. There is a running seconds register at the 9 o'clock position, a 12-hour totalizer at 6 o'clock, and a 15-minute counter with luminous plots (The ground check for an airplane takes 15 minutes). It has a 45-hour power reserve at full wind, and it's water resistant. The 13mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Breitling Co-Pilot 765 CP has a mechanical manual-winding Venus caliber 178 pillar wheel chronograph movement. It's copper-colored and constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and a micrometer regulator. The mechanism oscillates at a rate of 18,000 vph (2.5Hz). The Breitling Co-Pilot 765 CP with an aluminum bezel was introduced in 1965. It's also known as the Jean Claude Killy after the French downhill Olympic champion.
