More about Vintage Navitimer SS Circa 1973

This is a vintage c. 1973 stainless steel Breitling Navitimer 7806. It has a shell cordovan strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. There is a solid screw-down case back, round chronograph pushbuttons, and a rotating slide rule bezel. The 41mm diameter solid three-body case, revolving reeded steel bezel, and lapidated lugs are polished/brushed. The dial is black with applied luminous baton hour markers, a luminous Arabic numeral at 12 o'clock, and silver subsidiary dials. The original dial is in excellent condition with lightly aged lume on the markers and Tritium-coated white bâton hands. There is a luminous center white chronograph hand with an arrow tip, and an inner minute/one-fifth second track, with a telemeter and a slide rule around the perimeter. There is a subsidiary dial at 6 o'clock for the seconds, one for the 12-hour register at 9 o'clock, and a 30-minute dial at 3 o'clock. It has the legendary 'Twin Planes' logo, and the red highlights around the slide rule. The 13mm thick case, dial, and movement are signed. This Breitling Navitimer 7806 has a mechanical manual wound caliber Valjoux 7740 chronograph movement. It's copper-finished, and constructed with an Incabloc shock absorber mechanism, 17 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a monometallic balance. It includes a self-compensating flat balance-spring, and a column wheel chronograph with a carrying arm. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph.
