More about Tri Compax Stainless Steel / Silver Dial circa 1960

This is a vintage c. 1950's stainless steel Universal Geneve Tri Compax Triple Date Moon Phase 222100-1. It has an alligator leather strap with a stainless steel tang deployment clasp, and an acrylic crystal. It has round "pump" chronograph push buttons, a signed Universal Geneve screw down winding crown, and three correctors for the triple date on the left-side case band, including one at 8 o'clock, and two at 10 o'clock. Inside the solid engine-turned screw down case back is engraved "SWISS," with the Universal Geneve shield emblem. The 36mm diameter solid three-body case, twisted "Bombay" lugs, and flat bezel, are polished/brushed. The dial is satine silver with applied steel baton hour indices and luminous pips with their original radium lume, around a perimeter 1/5 seconds scale. It has the original steel dauphine hands with luminous inserts, and the center sweep chronograph hand. There are four recessed silver subsidiary dials with concentric guilloche patterns, black Arabic numerals and markers, and steel indicator hands, including a running small seconds indicator at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour chronograph totalizer at 6 o'clock, and there is a 30-minute totalizer at 3 o'clock. There are twin day and month aperture windows bracing the moon phase/date subsidiary dial at 12 o'clock. The 12mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Universal Geneve Tri Compax Triple Date Moon Phase 222100-1 has a mechanical manual winding Universal Geneve Caliber 281 column wheel chronograph movement. It's rhodium plated, and it's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance that's adjusted for 5 positions, a self-compensating blued steel Breguet balance spring, and an index regulator. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz). The Universal Geneve Tri Compax Triple Date Moon Phase 222100-1 was first produced in the 1950's.
