More about Vintage Autavia "Viceroy" Calibre 11 1971
This is a vintage c. 1971 stainless steel Heuer Autavia 1163. It has a leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. There is a solid screw-down polished case back, inside of which is engraved, "HEUER-LEONIDAS SA – SWISS – STAINLESS STEEL." It has round chronograph pushbuttons at 2 and 4 o'clock with crown guards, and the winding crown is at 9 o'clock with the original Heuer logo. The 42mm diameter tonneau-shaped solid two-body case, short curved lugs, and revolving bezel are polished/brushed. The bezel is black with Arabic numeral dive times every five minutes to 60 minutes, and a once-luminous triangle at 12 o'clock. The dial is black with applied luminous baton, square, and red stick hour indices, around a minute/one-fifth second track. The hands are steel with red accents and expired Tritium luminous inserts, and the center sweep chronograph hand is red. There are two white subsidiary dials, including a 12-hour register at 9 o'clock, and a 30-minute totalizer is at 3 o'clock. There is a white-rimmed date aperture window at 6 o'clock. It was originally water resistant to 100 meters/333 feet, and the 15mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical chronomatic self-winding Heuer caliber 11 movement is rhodium plated. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, and a self-compensating flat balance spring. The Heuer Autavia 1163 was produced from 1970 to 1971. It's associated with British racing driver Derek Bell, who was given his watch while driving for the film Le Mans with Steve McQueen.
