More about A. Lange and Sohne 234.049 1815 Up & Down CELLINI 40th Anniversary 18K White Gold

This is an 18K white gold A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Up & Down Cellini Edition, 234.049. It has a leather strap with an 18k white gold tang buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The 39mm diameter case, rounded bezel, and slightly downturned lugs are polished with a satin-finished case band, and the transparent Sapphire display case back is secured with 6 screws. The dial is white lacquered with painted black Arabic numeral hour index markers, blued steel alpha hands, a stepped-down center, and an outer minute track. It has two recessed subsidiary dials, including a small seconds dial between 3 and 5 o'clock with a red "40," and an up-and-down power reserve indicator dial between 7 and 9 o'clock. It has a power reserve of 72-hours at fill wind, and it's water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet. The 8mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

The manual winding A. Lange & Sohne caliber L051.2 is rhodium plated, with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 29 jewels, 245 components, and a shock absorber mechanism. It includes a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance adjusted to heat, cold, and 5 positions, and a self-compensating flat Nivarox balance spring. The ¾ back plate is finished with striped/ribbed texturing and polished beveIed edges, and the screw balance is shock resistant. It has a swan neck micrometer regulator, and the balance cock is hand-engraved, making each watch unique. The movement oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz), and the precision beat-adjustment system has a lateral setscrew and a whiplash spring.

The 1815 watches are a homage to Adolph Lange, the founder and pioneer of precision German watchmaking; they commemorate his birth year of 1815. This limited edition was released in 2017 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Cellini as a US retailer. It was limited to 40 pieces.
