More about IWC IW500901 Big Pilot Stainless Steel 7 Day

This is a stainless steel IWC Big Pilot IW500912. It has a black Kevlar over leather strap with a folding stainless steel deployment buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coatings; the glass is secured against displacement by large or sudden drops in air pressure. It includes an inner soft iron case for protection against magnetic fields. It has a large pilot-style gem-shaped screw down winding crown, and a screw down solid case back with a center engraving of the airplane and "INTERNATIONAL WATCH CO – PILOT'S WATCH – 6 BAR," and a serial number. The 46mm diameter solid two-body case, downturned lugs, and flat angled bezel, are polished/brushed. The dial is black with large military-style luminous Arabic numeral hour markers, a white triangle at the 12 o'clock position, luminous baton indices, and there is a white luminous perimeter minute/second scale. A trapezoidal date aperture window is at the 6 o'clock position, and there is a recessed black subsidiary 7-day power reserve dial with white Arabic numerals and a luminous "spitfire" indicator hand at three o'clock. It has luminous spitfire hands, and a luminous center sweep second hand. It has a 168-hour power reserve at full winding, and it's water resistant to 60 meters/200 feet. The 15.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

This IWC Big Pilot IW500912 has a mechanical automatic winding caliber 51111 movement with the patented Pellaton winding system for the automatic bidirectional rotor. It includes 42 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic Glucydor beryllium alloy balance with high-precision adjustment cam on balance arms, and a Breguet self-compensating flat balance spring. It has an index regulator, and a central hacking seconds device for precision time setting. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz).

IWC's Big Pilot watch from 1940 still directly influences this design. The caliber 5111 movement is also the largest automatic movement ever made by IWC.
