More about Rolex 16750 GMT Master Blue / Red "Pepsi Bezel" Circa 1984

This is a vintage 1984 Rolex GMT Master "Pepsi Bezel" 16750. It has an integral stainless steel Jubilee bracelet with a deployant clasp, and a scratch resistant acrylic crystal with a Cyclops magnifying lens bubble over the automatic quick set date aperture at the 3 o'clock position. It has a screw-down solid case back and protected crown. The 40mm diameter solid three-body case, downturned lugs, and bracelet are polished/brushed. The "Pepsi" red and blue bi-directional rotating bezel has white Arabic numeral 24-hour index markers for the second time zone. The dial is glossy black with luminous Rolex skeleton hands, a red GMT hand with a luminous arrow tip, and round, baton, and triangular hour markers. It has an outer minute track and it includes the Certified Official Swiss Chronometer (COSC) certification. It's water resistant to 100 meters/330 feet, and the 13.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

The mechanical automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 3075 movement is rhodium plated, and constructed with 27 jewels and a shock absorber mechanism. It includes a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance that's adjusted to temperatures and 5 positions, and a self-compensating Breguet balance-spring.

One of the most distinctive sport watches in the world, the Rolex GMT Master has a red and blue bezel, which is often affectionately referred to as the "Pepsi bezel" in reference to the soft drink producer's traditional color theme. In the mid 1950's, when Rolex first released the original GMT-Master - their first aviation watch - the blue color is actually attributed to Pan American Airlines who Rolex consulted with during the development of their two-time zone GMT sport watch. The Ref. 16750 was produced from 1979 to 1988, with the serial number of this watch being 856XXXX, made in 1984.
