More about IWC IW378507 Ingenieur Chronograph Ardois Dial SS / Leather

This is a stainless steel IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Racer IW378507. It has an alligator leather/black rubber strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. It has angled rectangular chronograph push buttons, a signed screwed down winding crown with a crown guard, and there is a screw down exhibition sapphire display case back with a raised relief of a Mercedes Formula One racing car, and it's engraved with "IWC – INGENIEUR CHRONOGRAPH RACER," and a serial number. The 45.5mm diameter solid three-body case, screwed hooded lugs, and flat/angled bezel, are satin/brushed. The bezel has an engraved black tachymeter scale to 1000 UPH, and the Andoise grey dial has a circular patterning. It includes steel "u-shaped" baton hour indices with luminous inserts, pointed skeletonized baton hands with luminous inserts, and there is a center sweep chronograph seconds hand with a red needle tip that indicates a luminous white minute/seconds scale around the outer flange, with luminous Arabic numerals every 10-minutes to a red "60 (inspired by the digital display on the steering wheel of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One car)." It has twins steel ringed black subsidiary dials with concentric guilloche perimeters, luminous white Arabic numerals, markers, and skeletonized small indicator hands with luminous inserts, including a running small constant seconds register at 6 o'clock, and there is a single dial at 12 o'clock with a combination chronograph seconds/minutes totalizer that permits recorded hours and minutes to be exhibited. With the aid of the tachymeter scale, it can measure average speed achieved over a measured distance. Pressing the reset button brings the stopwatch hand back to zero and immediately starts another timing sequence of the fly back function). A date aperture window is also at 6 o'clock, and it has a 68-hour power reserve at full winding. It's water resistant to 120 meters/380 feet, and the 15mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

This IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Racer IW378507 has a mechanical automatic self-winding IWC caliber 89361 (base IWC caliber 89360) fly back chronograph movement. It's rhodium plated, with Cotes de Geneve embellishment, and it's constructed with 38 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, an anti-shock device, a monometallic balance adjusted to 5 positions, and a self-compensating flat balance spring. It includes a hacking seconds mechanism for precision time setting, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz).

IWC introduced its IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Racer IW378507 as an official engineering partner to the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One team in 2013.
