More about Vintage Submariner "Rose Logo" Gilt Chapter Ring Circa 1963
This is a vintage c. 1963 stainless steel Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner 7928. It has a Rolex folded link stainless steel 7836 bracelet with 380 end links and a domed Tropic 19 acrylic crystal. It has the original screw-down Rolex Twinlock winding crown protected by pointed crown guards, which were a Tudor innovation in 1959 to protect the winding crown from shocks. There is a screw-down solid case back engraved with "ORIGINAL OYSTER CASE BY ROLEX GENEVA." The inner case back is engraved with "MONTRES TUDOR SA – GENEVA SWITZERLAND – PATENTED – STAINLESS STEEL – 7928." It has a bi-directional rotating bezel with a "long 5" black insert, with Arabic numeral markers every ten minutes, baton indices, and a triangle/luminous dot at 60 minutes (the 7928 has an identical bezel to the Rolex 5513 Submariner). The 40mm diameter solid sharp-edged case, curved lugs, bracelet, and angled flat bezel are polished/brushed. There is an original rose logo black dial with a matte brown "tropical" tint, evenly aged creamy luminous dot, baton and triangular hour indices, luminous steel "Mercedes" hands, and a center sweep second hand with a luminous dot indicator. Around the perimeter is a gilt minute/second chapter ring, and it's water resistant to 200 meters/660 feet. The 12mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner 7928 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Tudor caliber 390 (base Cal Fleurier 250/380), nickel-finished lever movement. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a self-compensating flat balance spring, a monometallic balance, an index regulator, and a Rolex rotor. The Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner 7928 was introduced in 1959, and was manufactured until 1968.
