This is an 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe “Michael Ovitz” Retrograde Perpetual Calendar 5059J-018. It is a unique piece, commissioned by Hollywood legendary agent and philanthropist Michael Ovitz. It has a black alligator leather strap with an 18K yellow gold folding deployment clasp with the Calatrava emblem, and scratch resistant sapphire crystals. It has a pull out “flower petal” winding crown, with a corrector on the right-side case band at 4 o’clock, and two more at 5 and 7 o’clock on the bottom case band for the perpetual calendar functions. There is a solid hinged flip-up half-hunter case back for the exhibition sapphire display back, with the inside engraved with “PATEK PHILIPPE – GENEVE – SWISS – 5059,” hallmarks, and a serial number. The 36mm diameter solid three-body, four-piece case, curved lugs with gold screwed bars, and officer's style wide convex bezel, are polished. It has a glossy black dial with applied 18K gold Breguet-style Arabic numeral hour markers surrounded by a perimeter minute/second scale with gold pips and luminous pip hour index markers (also a special order). There are gold feuille hands with luminous inserts produced only by special request from extremely select Patek Philippe clients. It includes a gold center sweep seconds hand, and a red accent hand that indicates the date on the retrograde radial date arc from 8 to 4 o’clock. There are day and month aperture windows at 9 and 3 o’clock, and a moon phase subsidiary dial is at the 6 o’clock position. and the perpetual calendar adjusts exactly for short and long months as well as leap years with a square leap year aperture window underneath 12 o’clock. The movement’s mechanisms were saved from Patek’s reference 5050 perpetual calendar watches to outfit this hunter case 5059J-018. It’s water resistant to 25 meters/80 feet, it has a 46-hour power reserve at full winding, and the 12.2mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Patek Philippe “Michael Ovitz” Retrograde Perpetual Calendar 5059J-018 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Patek caliber 315/136 movement. It’s rhodium-plated with Cotes de Geneve embellishment and the Patek Philippe seal. It's constructed with 30 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, a shock absorber system, and a 21K gold central ball-bearing rotor engraved with the Calatrava emblem. and it has a self-compensating free-sprung flat balance spring. It also has the patented Gyromax balance that compensates for cold, heat, isochronism, and six positions, and the mechanism oscillates at 21,600 vph (3 Hz). The Patek Philippe Retrograde Perpetual Calendar 5059J-018 was introduced in 1998 and it was discontinued in 2006. This rare, unique watch has the special Michael Ovitz “M.O.S.” monogram in white directly underneath the 6 o’clock numeral, incorporated into the outer minute/second scale. It includes the original certificate in the name of Mr. Ovitz From the Geneva Salon, dated 2014. The unique Pateks that were customized per his suggestions honor him with the monogram, "M.S.O". on the bottom of the dials.
