More about Portuguese Hand Wound Eight Days SS / Silver Dial

This is a stainless steel IWC Portuguese Hand Wound Eight Days IW510203. It has a black alligator leather strap, with a matching stainless deployant buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal with an arched edge and antireflective coating on both surfaces. The 43mm diameter solid three-body case, stepped bezel, and downturned lugs are polished. It has a skeleton sapphire crystal screwed down display case back and a push/pull-winding crown. The dial is silver with applied silver Arabic numeral and dot hour index markers, a silver printed minute track, and feuille leaf shaped silver toned polished hour & minute hands. There is a subsidiary small seconds dial with a very fine concentric circle texture at the 6 o'clock position, and a date aperture window at 3 o'clock. It's water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet, and the power reserve is a full eight days/192 hours at full wind. The 14mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This IWC Portuguese Hand Wound Eight Days IW510203 has a mechanical manual winding IWC caliber 59215 movement that's rhodium plated with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 30 jewels and a shock absorber mechanism. It has a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance that's adjusted to 5 positions, and a self-compensating Breguet balance spring. There is an index regulator, and a skeletonized bidirectional rotor with an engraved IWC logo with "adj to 5 positions," and a poser reserve display on the back. IWC debuted the IWC Portuguese Hand Wound Eight Days IW510203 in 2013. The actual power reserve is a full 9 days, but a blocking mechanism restricts it to the first 192 hours, when the tension in the mainspring remains is at its most regular. This watch honors the design of the original Portuguese timepieces of the 1930s with an arched-edge crystal, a railway-track-style chapter ring, feuille hands, and a small seconds dial at 6 o’clock. To keep the traditional symmetry of the dial, the power reserve display was positioned on the movement side.
