More about Top Hat 18K Yellow Gold

This is a vintage c. 1945 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe Top Hat 1450. It has a calfskin strap with an 18k yellow gold tang buckle, and a curved “bombé“ crystal. There is a snap-on brushed solid case back, inside of which is engraved "PATEK PHILIPPE & CO – GENEVE – SWISS," with all the clear hallmarks. It has a pull-out winding crown, and the 20.2mm by 36.6mm solid two-body case, hooded lugs, and curved stepped art deco bezel are original polish. The dial is silver with applied rose gold stick/baton and dot hour markers, gold epee hands, and a subsidiary running seconds dial with a rose gold indicator at the 6 o'clock position. The 9.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Patek Philippe Top Hat 1450 has a mechanical manual-winding Patek Philippe caliber 9'"-90 movement. It's rhodium-plated, with fausses cotes embellishment, and it's signed on the movement. It's constructed with 18 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement with a cut bimetallic compensation balance. It has a self-compensating Breguet balance spring, and a micrometer regulator. The Patek Philippe Top Hat debuted in 1939, and was immediately an iconic design that represented the fashion and style of a lost era. It was discontinued in the 1960s.
