More about Zeitwerk Striking Time 145.029 18K White Gold

This is an 18K white gold A. Lange & Sohne Zeitwerk Striking Time, 145.029. It has an alligator leather strap with an 18K white gold tang buckle, a scratch resistant sapphire crystal, and an exhibition sapphire crystal case back secured with 6 screws. The chiming mechanism utilizes two polished stainless steel gongs that are located beneath the jumping minute and hour digital windows; they sound by striking the circumferential gongs suspended between the dial and the bezel, with a reverberant low-pitched tone on the hour, and a clear high-pitched tone at the quarter hours. A button on the right side of the case edge deactivates the striking mechanism. The 44.2mm diameter solid three-body case, downturned lugs, and rounded bezel are polished. The dial is black and silver with a 36-hour up-and-down power reserve at the 12 o'clock position, and a constant small seconds subsidiary dial at 6 o'clock, both with rhodium-plated white gold hands. The untreated German silver movement bridge projects through the dial, forming the hours, minutes & seconds displays. In a recessed, tapered rectangular aperture on the left is the hour, and its twin on the right shows the minutes. The dial is lowered to surround the bridge, greatly reducing the overall case thickness. Visible on the bridge is a large screw attaching it to the mainplate, and a sapphire jewel end-stone. The 13.1mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical manual winding A. Lange & Sohne caliber L043.2 movement is constructed with 78 jewels, 528 components, and a Rhodium plated German Silver Time Bridge. It includes the patented A. Lange & Sohne mainspring barrel, and constant-force escapement that produces the switching step for the jump hour and minute, as well as an almost constant level of torque to the balance for the entire 36-hour period. The rotor oscillates at 18,000 vph (3 Hz). This is Lange & Sohne's first digital-readout display watch where the hour & minute apertures line up horizontally in a natural reading format, displaying the time with a mechanically operated fully digital numeric readout.
