More about Vintage Top Time Bi Compax Black Dial

This is a vintage c. 1970 stainless steel Breitling Vintage Top Time, reference 2002-33. It has a leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. There is a snap-on solid case back engraved with "Breitling," the reference and serial number in the center, and "SHOCK RESISTANT – ANTIMAGNETIC – STAINLESS STEEL – SWISS MADE – WATER RESISTANT" around the perimeter. The 36mm diameter solid two-body case, lapidated downturned lugs, and flat angled bezel are polished/brushed. It has round chronograph pushbuttons, and it's antimagnetic. The dial is black and features silver subdials with applied faceted steel baton hour markers, luminous hour dots, and steel baton hands with luminous inserts. There is a red center sweep chronograph hand, an outer minute/one-fifth seconds track, and around the perimeter is a tachymeter scale to 1000 UPH. There are two silver subsidiary dials, including a constant seconds dial at 9 o'clock, and a 45-minute chronograph totalizer is at 3 o'clock. The 12mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical manual winding Breitling caliber 188 is based on the Valjoux caliber 7733 engine. It's rhodium-plated, and constructed with 17 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a shock absorber device. It includes an antimagnetic monometallic balance, a self-compensating blued balance spring, and an index regulator.
