More about Vintage Refernce 333 Black Dial / IWC Service + Extract

This is a vintage WWII era c.1943 stainless-steel IWC 333. It has a leather strap with a signed stainless-steel tang buckle and a domed acrylic crystal. It has a low-profile pull-out winding crown and a solid snap down case back with an edition number. The 34.5mm diameter solid two-body round case, downturned straight lugs, and flat angled bezel, are polished/brushed. The dial is black with steel Arabic numerals surrounded by a silver perimeter dot minute scale, and it has steel feuille leaf hour and minute hands. There is a recessed black subsidiary dial at 6 o'clock with a white railway minute scale, markers, and a steel indicator hand. It has a 36-hour power reserve at full winding, and the 9.3mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This IWC Caliber 83 has a mechanical manual winding Caliber 83 movement. It's rhodium plated with cotes de Geneve embellishment, and it's constructed with 16 jewels, a U871 Balance Staff, a bimetallic screw balance, and a Breguet hairspring. It includes the optional Incabloc shock absorber device, a micrometer regulator, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5Hz). The IWC 333 was one of last watches produced in the Schaffhausen factory before it was bombed on April 1, 1944. It reopened in 1945 and began manufacturing watches for the British military using the caliber 83 movement that was introduced in 1930 and was produced until 1947.
