More about Portugieser Chronograph Black Panda Dial / SS

This is a stainless steel IWC Portuguese Chronograph, IW371404. It has an alligator leather strap with a matching stainless steel deployant buckle, and a scratch resistant domed sapphire crystal. The 41mm diameter solid three-body case, overhanging "deep dish" bezel, downturned lugs, and screw-down case back secured with four screws, are polished/brushed. The matte black dial has applied steel Arabic hour numerals and outer dot minute divisions. It has steel feuille hands, and an outer most minute track with a 1/5th seconds scale. The round pushbutton chronograph has subsidiary dials for the small constant seconds at 6 o'clock, and a 30-minute register at 12. It's water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet, and the 13mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The automatic calibre 79240 movement is gilt brass with oeil-de-perdrix embellishment. It's constructed with 31 jewels, a monometallic balance adjusted to 5 positions, and a straight-line lever escapement. There is a shock absorber mechanism and a, self-compensating flat balance spring, as well as a hacking seconds mechanism. The round case design Portuguese family was initiated in 1939 by IWC to honor Portugal’s great seafaring explorers like Vasco da Gama, Ferdinand Magellan, and Bartolomeu Dias. The line has grown to have formidable complications and designs that reference the tradition of nautical instruments.
