More about 2501 "Disco Volante" Manual Wind 18k YG

This is a c. 1950's Patek Philippe "Disco Volante" 2501. It has a leather strap with an 18k Yellow Gold tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. It has a pull out winding crown that's recessed into the case, and a snap down brushed and polished solid case back. The 33.5mm diameter solid round two-body case, curved lugs, and convex stepped bezel, are polished. The dial is silver with black Roman numeral hour markers at the quarter hours, black stick baton hour indices, and it has gold pointed stick baton hour and minute hands. The 7.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Patek Philippe Calatrava 2501 has a mechanical manual winding Patek Philippe caliber 10-200 movement. It's rhodium-plated with fausses côtes and cotes de Geneve embellishment, and it's stamped with the Seal of Geneva quality mark. It's constructed with 18 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a cut bimetallic compensation Breguet balance adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism, and 5 positions. It has a shock absorber device, a blued steel Breguet balance spring, and a swan neck micrometer regulator. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz). The Patek Philippe Calatrava 2501 was introduced in 1951 and was produced until 1960. "Disco Volante" translates to "flying saucer," and this watch is a combination of Art Deco design and space age modernism.
