This is a vintage 1965/1977 18K Yellow Gold Rolex Submariner "Nipple Dial" 1680. It has a "Top Hat" scratch resistant sapphire crystal with a Cyclops bubble that magnifies the date aperture window on the dial at 3 o'clock. The 40mm diameter solid three-body Oyster case has a natural satin/polished gold patination with a screw down case back and crown. It includes the original graduated bidirectional revolving blue bezel showing gold decompression times, and a crown guard protects the signed Triplock screw down winding crown. It has a purple dial with luminous gold "Mercedes" style Rolex hour and minute hands with luminous inserts, and applied circular "nipple-dot, triangular, and baton hour index markers. There is a gold center sweep seconds hand with a luminous "lollipop" indicator, and a gold perimeter scale has minute/seconds divisions. It's an Official Certified Superlative Chronometer (COSC), and it's water resistant to 200 meters/660 feet. The 13mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Rolex Submariner "Nipple Dial" 1680 has a mechanical automatic winding Rolex caliber 1570 movement. It's rhodium-plated with oeil-de-perdrix embellishment, and it's constructed with 26 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance adjusted to heat, cold, and 5 positions, a self-compensating free- sprung Breguet balance spring, Microstella regulating screws, and a hacking device for precision time setting. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 19,800 vph (2.75Hz). The Rolex Submariner 18K yellow gold "Nipple Dial" 1680 was introduced c. 1965 and was produced to 1977. Since Rolex didn't make many, it's considered rare.
