In 1953 Sir Edmund Hillary conquered Mount Everest in Sir John Hunt’s famous expedition, with his partner, Tibetan Tenzing Norgay. They both wore an Oyster Perpetual to the summit of the highest point on the planet. Consequently, Rolex produced and launched the original iconic Oyster Perpetual Explorer, commemorating the conquest of Everest.
