More about Vintage Polerouter Date SS Circa 1960's
This is a vintage c. 1960's stainless steel Universal Geneve Polerouter Date 204607. It has an Ostrich leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. It includes a screw down fluted winding crown, and a solid screw down case back with a white polerouter globe logo in the center. The 35.5mm diameter solid two-body case, gently curved lugs, and flat stepped bezel, are polished/brushed. The dial is glossy black with white crosshairs, a mirrored finely striated outer chapter ring, and a white perimeter minute/seconds scale with luminous pip hour indices. There is an applied steel Universal Geneve "U" emblem at 12 o'clock, delta-shaped sword hands with luminous inserts, and it has a wedge-shaped center sweep seconds hand. It has a steel-rimmed trapezoidal date aperture window at the 3 o'clock position. There is a 57-hour power reserve at full winding, and the 11mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Universal Geneve Polerouter Date 204607 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Universal caliber 69 movement. It's rhodium plated with Cotes de Geneve embellishment, and it's constructed with 28 jewels, an Incabloc anti-shock system, and a microrotor. It includes Girocap combined settings for the escapement wheel, a self-compensating flat balance spring, an anti-magnetic monometallic balance, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz). The Universal Geneve Polerouter Date 204607 was introduced in the 1960's. Legendary watch designer Gerald Genta engineered the Universal Geneve Polerouter and it was introduced in 1955. The name was originally "Polarouter," and was worn by SAS airline crews who flew over the North Pole, requiring strong anti-magnetic watches.
