Universal Geneve 881101/02 "Evil Clapton" Tri Compax, 881101 02, 88110102, extremely rare, this is the "Paul Newman" of all the Universal Geneve lines. Caliber 281 movement with day, date and month indicator, moonphase, chronograph, original black dial and white sub-dials are in fantastic condition, bezel has faded to a brownish/gray color, all luminous material on hands and dial are intact and appear to be original to the watch. This is an extremely rare vintage c. 1960's stainless steel Universal Geneve "Evil Clapton" Tri Compax 881101/02. It has a leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle and a domed acrylic crystal. It has round chronograph push buttons, and a solid screw-down case back, the inside of which is engine turned and engraved "STAINLESS STEEL – SWISS," and the Universal Geneve shield with a hallmark. The 36mm diameter solid three-body case, gently curved lugs, and black graduated bezel with a tachymeter to 500 UPH, are polished/brushed. The original dial is black with painted hour markers with luminous pips. It has silver tapered hands with luminous inserts, a red center sweep chronograph seconds hand, and there is a white perimeter minute/one-fifth second scale. There are three white subsidiary dials with black markings and hands, including a running seconds register at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour chronograph totalizer at 6 o'clock, a 30-minute indicator at 3 o'clock, and there is a combination moon phase dial with radial date numerals at 12 o'clock. There are rectangular day and month aperture windows with red letters at 10 and 2 o'clock respectively. The 12mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Universal Geneve "Evil Clapton" Tri Compax 181101/02 has a mechanical manual winding Universal Geneve caliber 281 movement. It's rhodium plated and it's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance that's adjusted for 5 positions, a blued steel Breguet balance spring, and an index regulator.
