Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqualung 1000FT, "Aqualung" was Jacques Cousteau's name for the diving line, stainless steel case is in excellent original condition appears to be unrestored, automatic AS 1361 caliber, original black radium dial has turned a dark tropical brown that appears milk brown in the sun and jet black in the right lighting, the dial has incredible patina and is in original condition, dial and hand radium patina match perfectly, original bakelite radium bezel in excellent condition, original crown, plexiglas crystal, solid screw down case back, original dust cover, Serial Number 29XX dates the watch to the late 1950's, size: 41mm, thickness: 14mm. Excellent Condition and extremely rare to find this model with a tropical brown dial.

This is a late 1950's stainless steel Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqualung 1000FT "JACQUES COUSTEAU." It has a nylon dive strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and a plexiglas crystal. There is a solid screw down case back secured with a screw-down ring, engraved with "BLANCPAIN - AQUA-LUNG – STAINLESS STEEL – SWISS MADE – AUTOMATIC – ANTIMAGNETIC – WATERPROOF – SHOCK PROTECTED." It has the original screw-down winding crown, and inside is the original anti-magnetic dust cover engraved "RAYVILL SA - SWISS." The 41mm diameter solid two-body bead-blasted case, downturned lugs, and unidirectional rotating knurled-edge flat bezel, are satin. It has the original extra wide graduated bidirectional revolving black Bakelite bezel with luminous stick markers, quarter-hour Arabic numerals, and a diamond marker at 60 minutes. The original gloss black dial has turned to a tropical brown, with an even patina and all of the radium matching. It includes radium Arabic numerals at the quarter-hours, baton hour indices, and the original luminous steel baton hands with aging that matches the markers. There is a center sweep seconds hand with an elegant arrow tip, and a white perimeter minute/seconds scale. It's water resistant to 300 meters/1000 feet, and the 14mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqualung 1000FT "JACQUES COUSTEAU" has a mechanical automatic self-winding Blancpain caliber AS 1361 movement that's rhodium plated. It's constructed with 17 jewels, an Incabloc shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, a weighted rotor, and a self-compensating flat balance spring. It includes a hacking small seconds device for precision time setting. The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqualung 1000FT "JACQUES COUSTEAU" is one of the most iconic dive watches ever made. It was introduced in the mid 1950s for both military use and recreational diving.
