More about Santos Dumont XL Rose Gold Manual Wind
This is an 18k rose gold Cartier Santos Dumont XL WGSA0032. It has an alligator leather strap with an 18K rose gold tang buckle, and a curved scratch resistant sapphire crystal. It has an pull out winding crown topped with a faceted cabachon sapphire, and a solid case back secured with 8 screws engraved "CARTIER – WATER RESISTANT – SWISS MADE," and a serial number. The 33.9mm by 46.6mm solid square case, gently curved lugs, and curved flat bezel, are polished/brushed. The dial is silver sunburst dial with painted black Roman numeral hour markers outside of square black minute scale, and blued steel sword hands. The secret Cartier signature is in the 7. It's water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet, and it has a 36-hour power reserve at full wind. The 7.5 mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Cartier Santos Dumont XL WSGA0032 has a mechanical manual winding Cartier caliber 430 MC (base Piaget 430 P) movement. It's rhodium-plated and engraved with special Cartier decoration, and a signed Cartier rotor. It's constructed with 18 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, a micrometer regulator, and a self-compensating flat balance spring. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz). The Cartier Santos Dumont WSGA0032 draws inspiration from its predecessors. In 1904, Louis Cartier was asked by his Brazilian friend and pioneer aviator, Alberto Santos-Dumont, to design a wristwatch he could use during his flights instead of a pocket watch. Louis Cartier created the Santos wristwatch for him, which first went on sale in 1911.
